FIVB Heroes maintain their 100% record in the Brasilia Open

The SWATCH World Tour opening tournament is off to a great start here in Brazil with the Brasilia Open. Yesterday was positive for our FIVB Heroes with Larissa/Juliana, May-Treanor/Walsh, Xue/Zhang, Talita/Antonelli, Kessy/Ross, Ludwig/Goller and Cicolari/Menegatti winning all their matches so far. It was a busy day for the girls, each playing two matches on a day where the sun was shining, making for some sweat-soaked shirts!

They are all through to round 3, being  played today, which will be a showcase of FIVB Heroes battles on the courts with all of them wanting to maintain their 100% record.

The two time Olympic champions Kerri Walsh and Misty May-Treanor will face the Germans Laura Ludwig and Sara Goller, who are showing great form this early in the season. Meanwhile, local celebrities Juliana and Larissa the reigning champions of the World Tour and this particular leg itself, will play against the Italian girls Greta Cicolari and Marta Menegatti. In the third and maybe most balanced FIVB Hero face-off, Jen Kessy and April Ross will meet Brasilians Talita and Maria Antonelli, who are counting on some vocal support from the stands to spur them on to victory.

If on court the players are all focused energy and concentration, backstage is a much more relaxed environment, with all athletes getting along, training together or stopping for a quick chat when possible. After all that is how sports should be!
