Simone Parodi takes the Italian title

Trento vs Macerata was the game that set Milan on fire. In a packed Mediolanum Forum of Assago, 11,210 screaming fans from all over Italy were treated to a final that will be remembered for a long time. Macerata were crowned Italian champions after a breathtaking fight of 2 hours 20 minutes with 3-2 (19-25, 12-25, 25-22, 25-18, 22-20).

Trento were off to a better start and had their eyes firmly set on the title as their best spikers Juantorena and Kaziyski put their team ahead 2-0. But Macerata were real warriors, pulled themselves out of their hole and ruled the third and fourth sets with a stunning performance from Parodi, hitting three aces in a row in the third set alone! The tie break cranked up suspense to fever pitch, and even after two hours the teams fought over each and every ball with maximum energy. A final error by Kaziyski handed Macerata the last set with 20-21 and Simone Parodi and his teams got the party started with hundreds of their supporters. Parodi had this to say at the end of the match: “I am really happy, it has been a great comeback, we all believed in our chance of success, even when Trento were playing quite perfectly. Now we can celebrate because we deserved to win!”
