In Pool A Serbia with FIVB Hero Sasa Starovic beat Spain 3-1 (25-19, 25-17, 23-25, 25-23), their first victory which puts Starovic’s team in reach of the semis – if they score another three points tomorrow to catch up with Bulgaria.
Pool B saw a crucial moment for all the teams, which were all in with a chance mathematically. In the first match between Slovakia and Finland, Slovakia earned three points beating the Fins 3-1 (25-20, 25-16, 21-25, 25-19). After three losses in a row, the Scandinavians are no longer in the running for the top ranks in their Pool.
Italy had a make-or-break day: Simone Parodi’s squad had to beat Germany to maintain their hopes of advancing, and they did so without much fuss in straight sets (3-0: 25-22, 25-21, 25-22). With nine points scored by our FIVB Hero, Italy keeps fighting for second place in Pool B.
Today is the last before the semis with some interesting games coming up: in Pool A Slovenia face Serbia, with the European Champions out of the running unless they score three points. Spain encounter Bulgaria in a crucial match for both sides: the Iberians need to win to proceed, while Matey Kazyiski’s team want to consolidate their lead in the Pool. The final match in Pool A will be Slovakia vs Italy, which will determine which team reaches second place in the group and therefore the semis.
