Dominican Republic champions in Tijuana

In a final match full of emotion, the Dominican Republic beat Cuba 3-1 (25-18, 25-23, 27-29, 25-20) and won not only the gold medal in Tijuana but a place in the Olympic Games in London!

FIVB Hero Milagros Cabral and her team have proven they are prepared to compete in the most important tournament this year.

The team joins Italy, the United States, China, Algeria and host Great Britain and will participate in their first Olympics in 8 years, last having competed in Athens in 2004.

“I want to thank God, but also my head coach. In this match we went out to the court with a lot of passion. We fought hard and wanted badly to go to London 2012”, said Milagros.

Before the final match, Puerto Rico pulled out a 3-2 (25-20, 20-25, 25-14, 23-25, 15-11) victory over No. 22 Canada and earned the bronze medal.

For the 5th to 8th places, the host Mexico won 3-0 (25-15, 25-21, 25-22) against Costa Rica and Trinidad & Tobago overcame Honduras 3-0 (25-10, 25-15, 25-23).
