In the beautiful capital Prague our FIVB Heroes delighted the Czech beach volleyball fans with their fantastic play. More then that, it was a very successful tour stop for the Heroes. Emanuel and Alison grabbed the silver medal, Todd Rogers and Phil Dalhausser finished third.
This summer’s most successful team Todd Rogers and Phil Dalhausser added another medal to their collection. They lost just one match 0-2 (17-21, 19-21). Unfortunately for them it was the semi-final against Cunha and Ricardo from Brazil. However, they came back for the bronze medal match and defeated another Brazilian team, Marcio and Pedro 3-0 (21-13, 21-19). Scoring three aces, Phil put his stamp on the match.
After an unexpected loss early in the tournament against a Kazakh team, Emanuel Rego and Alison Cerutti made it into the final. However, their way through the contender’s bracket cost them a lot of energy: “We took the long road“, Emanuel said after the final. “This was match number eight this week. But we played from the heart and found some energy there.”
In the end, the road was a little bit too long and Emanuel and Alison lost the final in just under an hour 2-1 (21-15, 19-21, 15-10). Once again it was Cunha and Ricardo who upset another FIVB Heroes team.
Nevertheless, the silver medal proves they’re heading in the right direction after a bronze medal at the last event in Beijing.
Pablo Herrera and Adrian Gavira were the third FIVB Heroes team to play in the main draw of the Prague Open. The Spaniards had problems finding their rhythm in the tournament and finished in a disappointing 17th place. They know they can do better, and it will surely motivate them to come out strong in two weeks when the tour moves on to Moscow.
