This has meant exciting developments in the Champions League! CEV has distributed a number of wild cards for the European Cups. Eight men’s and 8 women’s clubs now have the chance to participate in the most important club tournament in Europe. What does it mean for fans? More chances to watch FIVB Heroes!
So far 20 teams have qualified for the tournament by winning their leagues or cups. Ekaterina Gamova with her club Dinamo Kazan won the league for the second consecutive time and Neslihan Darnel stays with Turkish champion, Eczacibasi VitrA Istanbul. Vakifbank Istanbul, who own the Turkish Cup, will play with the great trio of Jelena Nikolic, Jovana Brakocevic and Saori Kimura. The Champions League will unite a big group of our ladies who play in clubs with wild cards: Manon Flier returns from Japan and will play in Azerrail Baku. And of course there is Italian, Simona Gioli, who plays in Galatasaray Istanbul!
Two of our Heroes, Simone Parodi and Sasa Starovic belong to Italian champion, Lube Banca Marche Macerata. Bulgarian star, Matey Kaziyski will participate in the Champions League with his Italian club Trento for the fifth consecutive time, while Maxim Mikhaylov will try to defend the title with his club Zenit Kazan. This group will join another two Heroes, who play in the clubs with wild cards: Polish star Bartosz Kurek, who just signed a contract with Dinamo Moscow and French opposite Antonin Rouzier, who plays in polish club Zaksa Kedzierzyn-Kozle.
In few months we will find out which Heroes will face eachother in a pool round. All matches will be available to watch at www.laola1.tv.
