Second day of the tournament in Ankara full of emotion!

Turkish FIVB Hero Neslihan Darnel and her team proved yesterday they are ready to grab victory, winning in straight sets against Croatia (25:19, 25:20, 25:14). With 6 points in the standings Turkey advances to the semi-finals.

But the really, thrilling battles took place in the other group. Jovana Brakocevic with team Serbia was two sets up over Netherlands and it seemed as though Manon Flier and her teammates could say goodbye to a ticket to London. But Flier showed she is a true warrior and a Hero. Netherlands got up off their knees came back to win the match 3:2, grabbing 2 points in the process and still in the running for the semi-finals!

“Today we knew Serbia was strong, but we never gave up. We came back due to our team spirit.  We have shown that we can play with the best teams. Now, our confidence has increased.  We will celebrate this victory and look forward to the following matches” – said Manon Flier after the match.

No less emotional was the match between Russia and Poland. Ekaterina Gamova and team Russia were able to take advantage of being more fresh than the tired Polish team, who were still recovering from their battle with the Netherlands the day before. But Poland knew the gym better and started the match well. The Russian FIVB Hero fought back and in a nail biting battle that had the fans on the edge of their seats! Finally in the 5th set Poland triumphed, taking 2 point and are now practically already in the semi-finals.

The third day will be time for Poland and Netherlands to rest. Serbia will fight with Russia to stay in the competition, while Germany and Margareta Kozuch will face Turkey in front of their fans and try to win for a place in the semis.

Keep following your teams and favourite FIVB Heroes. Who will celebrate victory on Sunday? We will soon find out…
