Tijuana: Dominican Republic and Cuba progress to the semi-finals

The first round in Tijuana is over and there were no surprises: favorites the Dominican Republic, starring FIVB Hero Milagros Cabral, and Cuba are the two semifinalists and closing in on their objective: a ticket to London 2012.

Both teams remain unbeaten. The Dominican Republic won 3-0, 3-1 and 3-1 against Honduras, Canada and Puerto Rico while the Cubans didn’t even lose a set beating their opponents Trinidad & Tobago, costa Rica and Mexico 3-0.

FIVB Hero Milagros Cabral said after the match against Puerto Rico: “We are happy with the ticket to the semifinals and three victories despite losing a couple of sets. Now we have to focus on the semifinals.”

The quarterfinalists are the hosts Mexico, second in Pool B, Puerto Rico, second in Pool A, Canada, third in Pool A and Costa Rica, third in Pool B. The winners will join Dominican Republic and Cuba in the semifinals, which will be played on Friday 4th May.

Honduras and Trinidad & Tobago, who were unable to record a win, will play against the losers of the quarterfinals for the fifth to the eighth places.
