The Brazilian girls will have to face some serious competition: Chinese FIVB Heroes Chen Xue and Xi Zhang are very confident after winning last week in Moscow – their third gold medal of the season. And Rome is still fresh on their minds, having won a bronze medal at the Foro Italico in 2011.
Last year’s silver went to Americans Kerri Walsh and Misty May-Treanor. They finished second last week, proving they’re in great shape. Their compatriots Jennifer Kessy and April Ross haven’t scored a medal yet this summer, but have impressed many times and are bound to make it to the podium sooner or later. The same applies for Laura Ludwig and Sara Goller from Germany. While they haven’t succeeded on the World Tour so far, they have already won a tournament on their national tour this year.
The second Brazilian team of FIVB Heroes, Talita Antunes and Maria Elisa Antonelli, is also looking to add another medal to their collection this year. In five events, they have won one gold medal and were runners-up twice.
The Italian fans, of course, are keeping their fingers crossed for local Heroes Marta Menegatti and Greta Cicolari. Marta and Greta have delivered several impressive results this year, including bronze in Brasilia and silver in Beijing.
