Both Russia with their star Ekaterina Gamova and Brazil with Sheilla Castro will head to the Yeltsin Cup a few days after the Grand Prix finals. And who are the best rivals for them? The other FIVB Heroes! At the tenth edition of the Yeltsin Cup, held from 4-8 July in Yekaterinburg in Russia, they will spend five days playing against each other.
Apart from Brazil and Russia, who use the tournament as part of their preparations for the London Olympics, we will also see Team Poland with Joanna Kaczor and Team Cuba with their star Kenia Opon in Yekaterinburg. Both FIVB Heroes failed to qualify for London, but it’s still an important occasion for them to represent their countries during the summer season.
Poland has participated in the Yeltsin Cup before: last year the Polish ladies lost in the match for bronze against Russia 2-3. The tournament was won by China with another FIVB Hero, Yimei Wang, defeating Brazil in the final 3-2.
Who will be on top this time? Sheilla, Ekaterina – or maybe Joanna and Kenia, after missing out on the Olympic Games, will try to make things harder for Brazil and Russia? This is a friendly tournament, but for volleyball fans it is still a great chance to see their idols and FIVB Heroes in action. To our dear Russian fans: will you be there?
