The Serbian captain, Jelena Nikolic is out of action due to a foot injury, while Cuban Kenia Opon has been suspended by her federation and probably won’t join the team for this edition.
Turkey gets off to a great start by taking revenge on Cuba for their only loss in the World Grand Prix 2012, winning 3-1. It was the same result in their match against Argentina, and Neslihan Darnel’s team showed no mercy to Serbia in front of their fans, again winning 3-1. Turkey scored 9 points and has risen to third place in the standings, with 15 points in total.
Hosts Serbia were not so lucky this time. FIVB Hero Jovana Brakocevic and her teammates started well enough with a 3-1 victory over Argentina, but the next two days brought losses. For Serbia, with just 8 points in the standings, advancing to the finals is now impossible. Coach Zoran Terzic decided to rest some of his players, including Jovana, who won’t travel with the team to Thailand for another weekend.
Meanwhile Neslihan Darnel and team Turkey will go to Osaka Japan, to face her fellow FIVB Heroes: Margareta Kozuch, Yeon-Koung Kim, Yoshie Takeshita and Saori Kimura.
