A total of twelve teams – eight from NORCECA and four from South America – are facing each other at the 2012 Panamerican Cup in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, which begins today and concludes on 20 July. One of the main stars of the competition will be Dominican FIVB Hero Milagros Cabral, who will use the tournament as her team’s final preparation for the opening game at the London Olympics.
The Dominican Republic has won this tournament twice before – in 2008 and 2010 – and hopes to return to the top, as the best teams from NORCECA qualify for the 2013 World Grand Prix. Brazil and the USA are also playing in the Cup, but have come to Mexico with different teams from the Olympic line-ups that don’t feature their respective FIVB Heroes Sheilla Castro and Destinee Hooker. Brazil is already qualified for the next World Grand Prix.
