China opened the second day of matches in Pool B with an important victory over Turkey 3-1 (25-20, 25-20, 29-31, 25-22). Not even the 16 points from the Olympic FIVB Hero Neslihan Darnel were enough for the Turkish girls who faced a very consistent team on the other side of the court. In the following match, an on-form Yeon-Koung Kim stepped onto Earls Court’s court. With an amazing score of 34 points she helped Korea to a 3-1 win against Serbia (25-12, 25-16, 16-25, 25-21).
The Olympic FIVB Hero commented after the game: “I don’t know my personal-best score with the national team, maybe 35 points. I think that in the Korean League I have scored more than 40 in a match but I really think more about winning than about the number of points”.
A classic match between Brazil and USA was the last of the day, in a re-match of the Beijing final. However, it was first time Olympian, FIVB Hero Destinee Hooker who recorded the biggest score of the game, with 23 points, helping the US girls win the battle in four sets (25-18, 25-17, 22-25, 25-21). China and USA now split the lead of the pool with 6 points, with China with best points ratio. Korea comes in third with three points followed by Brazil with two points. Turkey takes fifth place with one point won and Serbia closes the pool for now, with no points scored yet.
