He received his first big chance in 2008 at the age of 18, when he was noticed by the coach of the Italian club Trentino Volley Radostin Stoychev. A year later Tsvetan joined the team and soon began to collect several prestigious titles with it: he’s now a champion of Italian Serie A (season 2010/11), a two-time winner of the Champions League (2009/10, 2010/11) and a three-time gold medalist of the Club World Championship (2009, 2010, 2011)! Tsvetan will spend the coming season in Cuneo, Italy where he will try to add to his list of victories with Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo.
His career in Bulgaria’s national team, however, has been markedly less successful. In the absence of their biggest star, FIVB Hero Matey Kaziyskiy, team Bulgaria called on Sokolov only this year and he did his best to justify his country’s expectations. Scoring a great deal from match to match and occasionally taking over the captain’s armband during the preliminary stage of World League 2012, his efforts were sadly not enough to secure his team a medal in the World League Finals. But Tsvetan’s big battle has only just begun – FIVB Heroes fans are hoping to see him shine at the Olympic Games in London this summer!
