All American final at Horse Guards Parade!

After a difficult start against Brazilian team Juliana Silva and Larrisa Franca losing the first set 15-21, April Ross and Jennifer Kessy picked themselves up and won the next two sets 21-19, 15-12 achieving their Olympic final ambition.

“I think that we had tough, tough match and we just had to battle,” FIVB Hero Jennifer Kessy said. “Tonight we looked at each other and decided to battle. I couldn’t be happier. It is a great day for the US. It’s two medals for the US and hopefully we can come out and perform as we did today.”

Her teammate April Ross added: “I hoped for this day. I’ve thought about winning this match in my dreams, but I didn’t actually picture it coming true”

The FIVB Heroines will face another American couple, Kerri Walsh and Misty May-Treanor, who have already won Olympic gold in the past. The experienced couple won a tight semi-final against the Chinese Olympic FIVB Heroines Chen Xue and Xi Zhang 2-0 (22-20, 22-20).

“There’s relief, overwhelming relief, joy and a little humility,” FIVB Hero KerriWalsh said. “I’m so proud of us. We didn’t play perfectly, we were so far from perfect, but our minds were perfect and our hearts were perfect and that is why we won.”

She adds: “I think our experience absolutely helped. We have had an amazing 11 years together and experienced everything. We have a huge match tomorrow and have a goal that we want to achieve.”

At 7pm tomorrow London time Olympic FIVB Heroines Larrisa Franca and Juliana Silva will battle for the bronze medal with Chen Xue and Xi Zhang. Later that night, at 9pm the American final will start. Who will be able to call themselves Olympic Champions? We will find out very soon!
