Amazing tournament for Australia!

“It has been an amazing tournament for us” said Jon Uriarte, Australia coach. “This is the first time ever for this team to be in the Olympic Games. It is clear how they have improved day by day and now a big win against one of the best teams in the world. In our early matches, the tension was huge, we were not able to relax. Now you can feel the tension, but slowly we got into our business and we showed against Italy we can win against the top teams.”

And not just against Italy. The ast match of the group round saw Australia win 3-1 (25-21, 25-22, 18-25, 25-22) over the Polish team and FIVB Heroes Zibi Bartman and Bartosz Kurek, who Igor Yudin knows well. The Olympic FIVB Hero played for many seasons in Poland and is now going to play in the Russian Superliga. Australia denied the winners of the World League 2012 1st place in the group and for a short while kept their chances alive to remain in the competition.

In the end Australia didn’t qualify, but Igor Yudin and his teammates will take encouragement from this experience, which will help them to grow as a team and maybe in the future become one of the top.

We wish the Australian team and Igor Yudin all the best in the future!
