Teams Serbia and Tunisia were the first of Pool B to come out on court yesterday. FIVB Olympic Hero Noureddine Hefaiedh hoped to record a first victory for Tunisia, but Sasa Starovic and Serbia gave a solid performance to deny the African team their break through, 3-1 (25-15, 25-21, 20-25, and 25-18).
After losing to Russia in straight sets team the day before team Germany was expected to improve and show the level they have done for most of this season. But Georg Grozer couldn’t resist the pressure team USA piled on. With 16 points (including two aces) under his belt FIVB Olympic Hero Clayton Stanley celebrated his second victory in a row 3-0 (25-23, 25-16, and 25-20).
The match between world’s best teams Brazil and Russia was named “the clash of the day” as the names of old rivals and FIVB Olympic Heroes Murilo and Maxim Mikhaylov are always a guarantee of a high-quality face-off. Indeed, the game was every bit as thrilling and emotional as expected, but no matter how hard the Russians tried to make a come-back, Brazil dominated throughout the match and were deserved winners (25-21, 25-23, and 25-21), now sharing the lead in the Pool B rankings with USA.
