FIVB Heroines reached the quarterfinals!

In the quarterfinals the Brazilians will meet German team FIVB Olympic Heroes Sara Goller and Laura Ludwig who advanced to the next round after beating their compatriots Katrin Holtwick and Ilka Semmler in 40 minutes 2-0 (21-16, 21-15).

Their quarterfinal match will take place on Sunday, and the Brazilians have not yet dropped a set in the tournament! Olympic FIVB Heroes April Ross and Jennifer Kessy eased into the next round after winning their match with Simone Kuhn and her partner Nadine Zumkehr from Switzerland in two sets 2-0 (21-15, 21-19). The Americans are now waiting to find out who their opponents will be, the Czech duo Lenka Hajeckova and Hana Klapalova or Brazilian Olympic FIVB Heroes Maria Antonelli and Talita Rocha.

In one of the shortest matches of the tournament, Chinese Olympic FIVB Heroes pair Chen Xue and Xi Zhang sent home Evgeniya Ukolova and Ekaterina Khomyakova from Russia in less than half an hour 2-0 (21-12, 21-11).

Their opponents in the next round will be Austrian sisters Stefanie and Doris Schwaiger who won a thrilling match against another Russian team Anastasia Vasina and Anna Vozakova 2-1 (21-17, 16-21, 15-9).

The round of 16 action will continue today. In the first meeting Spaniards Eliza Baquerizo McMillan and Liliana Fernandez Steiner will come up against Italian Olympic FIVB Heroes Greta Cicolari and Marta Menegatti. The winner of this match will next meet the defending Olympic champions and Olympic FIVB Heroes Kerri Walsh and Misty May-Treanor from the United States of America or Olympic FIVB Hero Sanne Keizer with her teammate Marleen van Iersel from the Netherlands.
