Stare Jablonki is a very special place for Juliana and Larissa, and even more so now that they’ve won their fourth consecutive gold medal there! It’s their third title of the season, taking them to the top of the SWATCH World Tour league table with only two tournaments to go for 2012.
To claim their 45th title as a team, the Brazilian duo had to overcome some strong opponents. After eliminating their compatriot FIVB Heroes Talita/Maria Elisa, they went into a tough semi-final against Holtwick/Semmler, who had eliminated American FIVB Heroes Jen Kessy and April Ross in Round 3. Juliana and Larissa beat the German girls in three sets (21-17, 14-21, 15-10) to reach the final.
In the gold medal match, Juliana and Larissa once again went into battle against Italians Greta Cicolari and Marta Menagatti. These four FIVB Heroes have met several times in other tournaments this season and know each other very well. This time it was Juliana and Larissa’s turn to win 2-0 (21-16, 22-20).
“Conquering this Grand Slam was really important for our ambitions to achieve our seventh world title. We managed to lead the ranking in a key moment of the competition. It was very tiring, because after the Olympic Games we travelled to Brazil and had only one day’s rest before coming to Poland. But it was worth it. This is our fourth consecutive medal here and I hope to stick to this script”, celebrated Juliana after the game.
Being in pole position in the league table, Juliana and Larissa are perfectly placed to become World Tour Champions for the seventh time in their career.
