The Europeans were hot favourites in their match against Australia and gave the fans another superb win. It was 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-22) in spite of a good performance by Australian Olympic FIVB Hero Igor Yudin, who scored 12 points and was the best blocker. With this result, Bulgaria remains on top with 9 points and having lost only one set against Italy.
In the second match of the day, Poland and Argentina battled to recover from the previous losses and Polish Heroes Zibi Bartman and Bartosz Kurek were unstoppable scoring 17 and 16 points respectively. Facundo Conte and teammates had chances in the second game, but Poland eventually won 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-16) and took second place in the pool.
To finish a day full of action, the last encounter pitched the Italians against Great Britainwith the Italians winning in straight sets (25-19, 25-16, 25-20) over a Team GB that has yet to record a win in these Games. Olympic FIVB Hero Cristian Savani’s team was clearly the better side and is now third with Argentina and Australia.
Next Saturday our Olympic FIVB Heroes continue their quest for Olympic medals: Great Britain vs. Poland will be the opening match of the day followed by Australia vs. Italy and Argentina vs. Bulgaria.
