The first match of the day was between Dominican Republic and Japan, pitching our FIVB Olympic Heroes Milagros Cabral and the Japanese Saori Kimura and Yoshie Takeshita against each other. Japan took an easy win in straight sets (25-20, 25-19, 25-23) thanks to their fast play organized by Takeshita. Olympic FIVB Hero Milagros Cabral didn’t play at her best, scoring just 5 points in the end, whilst Kimura was the second best scorer of her team with 13 points.
Another fast match saw Russia overcome Algeria 3-0 (25-7, 25-14, 25-15) in just an hour. FIVB Olympic Hero Lydia Oulmou put all her efforts in trying to pass the tall Russians, but they proved too much for the North African: she scored just 4 points, as did her fellow FIVB Olympic Hero Gamova, but the Russian played just one set in the match. With this, their third victory, Russia went to the top of the pool.
In the last match of day three Italy clinched another victory over Great Britain3-0 (27:25, 25:12, 25:12). The beginning of the match was thrilling with the host team threatening to take the lead throughout the set, but at the end the more experienced Italians took the break to win it . FIVB Olympic Heroes Lynne Beattie and Simona Gioli were two of the best scorers of the match with 11 and 10 points, but only “mamma fast” was able celebrate victory in front of 15000 cheering fans.
Tomorrow it is time to get back on court for all the teams, so stay tuned to FIVBheroes.com to know which Olympic FIVB Heroes will come out on top.
