In the decisive match against hosts Slovenia, the Germans left no-one in doubt as to who would be stepping off the court as the winners.. After a balanced start of the first set, Georg and his team pulled ahead with a 10-0 run and dashed all hopes of the Slovenian crowd in Maribor. In the second set, the favourites quickly built up a four-point lead, but the home team fought back and even managed to take the lead – but not for long, as Germany recovered fast from its 19-20 score to make four points in a row and take the 2-0 set lead. Finally, the third set was a repeat of the first: Germany left the opponents behind halfway through and easily clinched a 3-0 (25-12, 25-22, 25-16) victory to celebrate the direct qualification.
Georg Grozer had another great match and was the top scorer with 17 points. He also scored the most points per set of the entire qualification.
The final match against Sweden was then no longer crucial and Georg was given a well-deserved rest, but his teammates put in another stellar performance and won 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-13).
