After the disappointment of being out of the 2012 Olympic Games, the Dutch superstar and FIVB Hero Manon Flier went on a hard earned vacation and took some time off from the national team, skipping the European League. She used the time to relax and followed her fiancé Reinder Nummerdor in London.
Now, with her batteries fully charged again, she is back in style and looking forward to helping her teammates in their next challenge: qualifying for the 2013 European Championship. And they were off to a great start!
Playing at home, in Apeldoorn, the Dutch team won all their matches without dropping a single set against Denmark (25-12, 25-11, 25-9), Ukraine (25-19, 25-18, 25-22) and Greece (25-20, 25-23, 25-13) and now lead Pool B with 9 points. Manon Flier played the first two games, scoring 12 points in total.
As coach Vermeulen explained after this weekend’s round, these results were the best possible the Dutch girls could achieve and this gives them confidence to show a even better performance next week, when they will try to book their ticket for the continental tournament playing in Yuzhny, Ukraine.
