Under fairly difficult conditions such as rain and wind, Larissa and Juliana surprisingly were eliminated in the quaterfinal. Playing in the loser’s bracket, they lost to Evgenia Ukolova and Ekaterina Khomyakova from Russia 0-2 (18-21, 19-21). Earlier, the Brazilians came up short against the Spaniards Liliana Fernandez Steiner and Elsa Baquerizo McMillan 1-2 (21-10, 19-21, 18-20).
After a tough season, Larissa admitted she was happy to get some rest: „It has been a long season, my concentration is gone, mentally I am exhausted. We played so many tournaments this year, I want to go home to my country, my family and my house.“
FIVB Hero Maria Clara Carol shared the same fate with her partner Liliane Maestrini. After being defeated by Liliana and Baquerizo 2-0 (21-16, 21-13), another loss against Katrin Holtwick and Ilka Semmler 2-0 (21-17, 23-21) ended the Brazilian’s tournament.
Later, Holtwick and Semmler from Germany won the gold medal with a 2-1 (21-18, 19-21, 15-9) victory over Liliana and Baquerizo. Bronze went to Ukolova and Khomyakova.
There is still one more tour stop to come for the FIVB Heroines next month. Stay tuned on FIVBheroes.com to know how they will do in Thailand!
