To book their ticket to Qatar, the Brazilian superstar had to face three other teams from the South American continent in a round-robin system. The competition was Sheilla’s debut with her new team, after transfering from rival Unilever Rio de Janeiro at the end of last season.
Without losing a single set, Osasco easily won all matches, beating Club Deportivo Venezuela, from Paraguai (25-11, 25-06, 25-10), Universidad Católica, from Bolivia (25-06, 25-12, 25-13) and Boca Junior, from Argentina (25-15, 25-18, 25-09) to raise the cup for the fourth time in a row.
Sheilla described the feeling after her first match: “When they anouced my name, the whole gym celebrated and I’m really happy with this support. I played only one set, as the game was easy and I’m still coming back slowly. It was good to make the debut now though as I can get all the anxiety over with and concentrate on the game”.
As usual, Sheilla was also elected MVP of the tournament. And now she will join her fellow FIVB Hero Yeon-Koung Kim, who also qualified with her team Fenerbahçe, from Turkey, in the World Championship, that will start in October in Doha, Qatar.
