Step up for Destinee Hooker

All her fans know that volleyball is not the only kind of sport Destinee’s good at. Her personal record in the indoor high jump is 198 cm, but she preferred the career of volleyball player to track-and-field: “With this result I would have made it to the World Championship 2011 finals, but I had already switched to volleyball completely by that time. In high-jump you compete with a bar. It takes you a lot of time to concentrate, you jump and get ready for another jump. Volleyball is faster, and it’s much more fun, that’s why I picked it”.

Destinee arrived in Russia as a silver medalist of the Olympic Games 2012, a lifetime achievement for many athletes, but not for Destinee. A huge desire to master her skill is one of the reasons why one of the best opposites in the world chose Krasnodar as her home for this season: “My moving to Krasnodar is one more step up. I know that foreign players who come to Russia usually make a great progress. All the teams here fight to the end. This constant pressure won’t let you relax, turns you on, helps you reach good results” – explains Destinee. “One more thing that attracted me was the opportunity to play under the command of Avital Salinger. His father Ari is still a huge authority both in USA and in women’s volleyball in general”.

The third reason was Krasnodar’s reputation as the ‘Russian California’: “I live in Los Angeles, that’s why for my personal comfort it’s important that my team is based in a warm and sunny city”.

Dinamo Krasnodar hasn’t lost a match in two months and currently stands second in the rankings only by set ratio. Will Destinee make it to the Russian Championship Finals unbeaten? Find out on FIVBheroes.com!
