The Champions League title stays in Istanbul as Vakifbank with FIVB Heroes Jovana Brakocevic and Saori Kimura won yesterday’s Final Four.
In the semi-final our Heroines and their team gave the host of the finals, Galatasaray Daikin Istanbul no chances to make a come back beating Simona Gioli’s team 3-0 (28-26, 25-17, 25-21). The Serbian opposite scored 21 points, including 3 ace serves and attacked with 62% efficiency.
Although FIVB Hero Margareta Kozuch was the best scorer in her team (20 points), Italian team Unendo Yamamay Busto Arsizio lost in a thrilling 5 sets match against Azerbaijan’s dream team Rabita Baku 2-3 (14-25, 16-25, 29-27, 25-19, 6-15). The Italian team recovered from 0:2 down but ran out of steam in the final set.
However, the German star and her teammates found the motivation to play the following day for the bronze medal against hosts Galatasaray Daikin. Overcoming some nervous moments in 3rd and 4th sets but learning from their mistakes, Yamamay Busto Arsizio defeated Galatasaray 3-2 (25-21, 25-15, 23-25, 22-25, 15-11). Both FIVB Heroes scored 17 points, but Margareta Kozuch finished the tournament happier and will leave Turkey with a bronze medal.
Vakifbank Istanbul lead by charismatic coach Giovanni Guidetti dominated in the final, winning against Rabita Baku 3:0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-23), and taking the Champions League title for the second time. Again, with 14 points FIVB Hero Jovana Brakocevic was the best scorer in her team, and also was named MVP of the tournament!
Congratulations to Vakifbank and FIVB Hero Jovana Brakocevic!
Thank you for an emotion packed weekend!
